How about a sweet love story for a change? I spend most of my working days snuggling little babies into a blissful sleep or making silly noises to elicit genuine smiles from toddlers and big kids. Needless to say, I am not a wedding photographer, but when a dear friend asked if I would photograph her Grandparents’ 62nd wedding anniversary and vow renewal, I couldn’t refuse. I am so glad I was able to witness this special day and capture the moment with my trusty Nikon. The day was full of celebration indeed, but even with the Pinterest-worthy décor and a ceremony that encouraged sweet tears, my absolute favorite image is the one below. It’s not a posed portrait or a planned picture by any means, but it was a spontaneous connection between people who love each other dearly.
First, let me paint the picture with the day’s events. After the posed family portraits and pictures of the sweet ceremony, I moved around the reception room capturing photos of family and friends celebrating and just having an all-around good time. So, there I was simply chatting and snapping away, when I turned around to see this moment – the bride (the grandmother) was sharing a small black & white 4×5 inch wedding photo from her original wedding with her granddaughter (my dear friend). Such a sweet moment! And click! Generations sharing a memory from over 62 years ago, and well before my friend was even born into this loving family. A moment that was enhanced ten-fold by the addition of a photo! Would this special moment have even occurred without the prompting of a cherished wedding photo? I will always remember that brisk February day very warmly. The day was filled with love of the best kind – a love that lasts generations. When the groom was asked to divulge his advice for a long-lasting marriage, without hesitation, he replied “Never stop trying.”
XOXO. Happy Valentine’s Day!
